I am proficient in using Logic Pro for mixing and mastering, recording, sound design, and audio post-production. I’m also interested in writing music for video games and film and have recently begun to experiment with sampling in my compositions.
Music
A selection of my personal work and past projects, available on Soundcloud.
'Groove'
Groove was one of my first compositions that I released on streaming platforms and was the beginning of my personal journey into the music industry. This was around the time that my influences were starting to diverge and I incorporated my new style of playing into the recordings. The song features different dynamics throughout, along with interesting instrumentation .
'Industrial'
The project ‘industrial’ was crucial to my songwriting evolution, resulting from an unusual approach where I had to design and synthesise every single instrument/sound from the ground up. I utilised a plethora of foley recordings collected within my local area in Bristol, including sounds of diggers, drilling, excavation and other vehicular construction noise. These elements were then meticulously transformed into usable sounds via samplers. I was profoundly influenced by industrial music producers like Burial, renowned for their compositions purely based on samples.
'Tamzin'
Tamzin was a project that forced me out of my comfort zone due to the instrumentation being entirely composed of digital instruments, which was a change from my prior tracks that were composed mostly from microphone and DIrect input recordings. My main influence for this song was Boards of Canada’s album ‘Music has the right to children’. It was my first time composing along the lines of ambient music, which I implemented using a lot of droning elements and unique rhythms.
'Jitter'
‘Jitter’ was an early development in my portfolio which features a lot of dynamic movement throughout. It was through this that I discovered my interest in songs that constantly move around and ‘feel like a journey’. This song was a culmination of many ideas from different projects that were merged. The equipment I had on me at the time was limited, but I experimented with different techniques to try and capture the sounds I had in mind when composing.
'Roadworks'
‘Roadworks’ is a recent project using the techniques and knowledge I had gained from composing ‘Industrial’, I was able to compose a more concise and structured track. I used various levels of modulation and effects to retain certain aspects of the foley recordings, including transients, drones and ambience. Recordings include police and ambulance sirens, vehicle engines, dialogue and anything I could record on the motorway.
'Meander'
Meander is my most recent project to date, citing influences from the experimental band “Death Grips”. The track features interesting rhythms and time signatures to convey a different emotional response, along with varied instrumentation using samples and recordings of my analogue Korg Minilogue XD. Tonal changes from the verses to chorus integrate a gritty and lo-fi sound palate, contrasting the more refined and digital verses. I also implemented in a variety of mixing techniques which complimented the track as a whole and ensured sound levels were to industry standard. I am planning on re-releasing this track with added vocals in the future.
